A School Run (Option 3)

This is a sample school run from my child’s school near the airport to the Autumn Lake neighbourhood.

This ride is 8.0 km of bike lanes with some separated bike paths. It is not the most direct route, but it eliminates the high-pressure riding on Lien Rd. Unfortunately, Anderson Dr remains unimproved. Worst of all, this is the longest route with the greatest vertical gain of the three options. Madison has great bike infrastructure, but unfortunately this route passes through some of the most car-centric parts of the city. The most obvious improvement to this route would be to extend the Anderson Street Path from Madison College to the Pankratz St.

This is a sample school run from my child’s school near the airport to the Autumn Lake neighbourhood.

This ride is 7.8 km of bike lanes with some separated bike paths. It is not the most direct route, but it reduces some of the most concerning aspects of the more direct path shown in Option 1. Madison has great bike infrastructure, but unfortunately this route passes through some of the most car-centric parts of the city. The most obvious improvement to this route would be to extend the Anderson Street Path from Madison College to the Pankratz St.

This is a sample school run from the Autumn Lake neighbourhood to my child’s school near the airport.

This ride is 6.5 km of bike lanes with some separated bike paths. It is the most direct route, but certainly not the most comfortable for those who prefer less interaction with car traffic. Madison has great bike infrastructure, but unfortunately this route passes through some of the most car-centric parts of the city. The most obvious improvement to this route would be to extend the Anderson Street Path from Madison College to the Pankratz St.

This is the forest in a loose series of videos documenting key bike routes in Madison, WI. In this one we ride from Monroe St (two blocks from the Southwest Commuter Path) to the Capital City Trail at Olin Park.

In addition to being a useful crosstown connector, the Wingra Creek Path crosses Fish Hatchery Rd. only 1 km north of the start of the Cannonball Path.

A morning ride to the annual Brazen Dropouts bike swap. They are a great organization, and host the best bike swap in the Midwest!

Total distance one-way was 18 km, the weather was clear, wind light, and temp -11°C. The route is not the most direct, rather I wanted to see how some of the new bike infrastructure is maintained on its first winter.
