One of the promised improvements, as with the rest of the ABRT lines is a 20-25% reduction in travel times, as a result of these new features. Is this actually the case? As a child living in the southwest metro, I found it hard to justify making a trip, and while the reasons changed, the end result stayed the same: My train ride would need to wait.

The most recent hangup was the old service schedule. With only two round trips a day — two morning southbound and two evening northbound — I would need to spend the night in Big Lake or bike back to Anoka and catch a bus in order to make it work. With the reintroduction of two more round trips per day — a northbound and southbound each in the morning and evening — this can now be accomplished in about an hour and a half.

So, on Monday, October 2, I took the day off to finally cross this goal off my list — along with a few other, less important things.

While many publications had written articles about the service, including some excellent reporting here on Streets.mn, there weren’t any videos online depicting actual usage of the service. So I decided to fill this gap with my own test-drive and review.

This was back in September 2022, and a few things have changed since then. First, Evie has expanded their fleet with over 20 Nissan Leaf Plus vehicles. Second, thanks to the Disadvantaged Communities Carshare Act (SF 671), which was signed into law and took effect July 1st, Evie rentals are no longer subject to the 9.2% car rental tax.

Lastly, at the time this video was filmed I owned 1 car and 1 bike. I’m proud to report that I now own 0 cars and 4 bikes, including a Brompton which I use frequently to get to and from Evie rentals.
