We were approaching an all way stop on our way home from school. The driver heading toward us was already at the stop sign, so we stopped to wait to make our left turn. But the driver just sat there. They might have been trying to wave us through, but there was a glare on their windshield, so we couldn't be sure. So we did what we always do - we waited our turn. Finally the driver went, and then we entered there intersection at the correct time. But the driver behind the first car was clearly annoyed at having to wait, and tried to sneak through despite us clearly having the right-of-way.

It's incredibly dangerous when drivers try and wave cyclists through. We see hazards they've never dreamed of, and we know it's never worth the risk.

This is one of the many reasons stopping at stop signs puts cyclists in greater jeopardy than rolling through them.

Bicycle-mounted video showing a cyclist stopping at a stop sign, then making a left turn. A few seconds later, the cyclist stops at another stop sign, signalling another left turn, but is aggressively passed on the left by the driver of a right-turning car that had been tailgating the cyclist.

Bicycle handlebar cam video of a narrow neighborhood street. Ahead of the bicycle is a Prime truck, parked facing traffic. As the bicycle approaches from the rear, the Prime truck begins driving down the road in the left lane (we drive on the right here), and then with no warning, swerves to the right side of the road (nearly cutting off the bicyclist) before making an unsignalized left turn into a driveway.

There's a construction crew working on a road on our route to school. The presence of their flagperson has somehow caused drivers to completely forget how to drive.
Video shows 1 car going through a stop sign, then regretting it and trying to back up, but then changing their mind and sitting in the middle of the intersection while 8 more drivers run the stop sign from the other direction.

My kid had just been describing the crap driving she'd had to navigate on her bike ride home from school the day before, when the driver of this silver 4-runner ignored our left turn signals and passed us as we were positioning ourselves for a left turn. It was a good teaching moment, but also, it's exhausting. Every day, she has to deal with at least half a dozen incidents like this, where adult drivers simply DGAF, and kids have to figure out for themselves how to not get killed.

Today I nearly got right hooked by the driver of a black Jeep who couldn't be bothered to wait half a second and turn behind me, instead of overtaking and turning in front of me. The squealing sound is my brakes.

This short clip captures, via rear and forward facing bike cameras, the moment when the driver of a pickup truck nonchalantly passes my kid and me as we bike through an intersection. This is not multilane road, which means passing within the intersection is both unlawful and dangerous. He waved as he passed.

Video shows a bike lane next to a school in Chapel Hill, NC. There are cars parked in the bike lane regularly at pick up and drop off time. When I go around them, I'm frequently passed by impatient motorists. Most of these passes occur despite oncoming traffic--other parents taking their kids to school--which increases the risk of a head-on collision.
