At Lyft's scale, responsible OSM stewardship means knowing when not to edit. The team defends the critical routing layer via "golden route" simulation that validates human edits before they ship, absorbs transient and proprietary data internally rather than polluting the public map, and gives back through quality pipelines that detect and fix real OSM errors like orphaned turn restrictions directly at the source - a symbiotic approach where internal QA heals the map for everyone.

Internet-in-a-Box is an open source project that delivers offline access to educational content (Wikipedia, Khan Academy, OSM) for communities with limited or no Internet connectivity, turning low-cost hardware into a comprehensive library complete with a Wi-Fi hotspot. In the last year, the IIAB Maps offering has been revamped from the ground up using modern tools and a clever hack or two. This talk focuses on how the team optimizes for affordable hardware to serve learners everywhere.

Plenty of people create physical maps too, using QGIS or other GIS apps to make pretty PDFs. But what about physical maps drawn with plotting machines where each layer requires swapping a pen and hoping everything stays aligned? This talk shares stories from experience making maps with these drawing machines using favorite OSM tags.

Manual curation is a bottleneck, with backlogs hitting 200k tasks. By using a distributed data network, data expiration has been cut from 11 to 3 months, making the map 4x fresher. This volume requires rapid validation. The goal is to boost curation capacity by 20% using AI agents to bridge imagery pipelines and OSM contributions, automating 10+ feature pipelines (e.g. turn restrictions), freeing the community to focus human-in-the-loop efforts on the most complex edge cases.

But what could possibly do that? Are these techniques available to anyone? Let's investigate some sure fire ways to encourage mappers, ranging from trivial to difficult. Maybe we can discover some new skills, make some new tools, and even find a few new friends along the way.

With this redesign, the goal was to give users a fresh user interface with targeted improvements, while not breaking the "flow" that has worked for mappers for 13 years. Whether you are new to MapRoulette or a veteran user, try out the public beta to improve the map, create tasks for the community to solve, and give feedback.

In Washington State, a legislative proviso funded the creation of a statewide OSW-formatted dataset: OS-CONNECT. This talk shows how this data has been published as reference layers and surfaced directly inside the Rapid editor, so mappers can use it today as part of their workflow while mapping pedestrian infrastructure in OSM.

Every route number was changed, bus stops were closed, and some routes were entirely different than they were the day before. This session explores how a few mappers tackled the challenge of quickly incorporating all of this new data into OSM, and how they inspired other mappers to update other bus networks in the surrounding area.

Using Edge AI, it detects traffic signs and POIs on-device to drastically reduce mapping costs, moving closer to reflecting real-time ground truth by automating validation of traffic incidents in 10 minutes or less. This talk shares the architecture, results from thousands of deployed units, and the technical and operational challenges of scaling edge-first map making.
