We quickly drafted the recommendation and ran around the room to seek consensus. We actually checked wording with the PCC too! The monitoring officer was on hand to make sure it ticked the legal boxes. Then is went to the vote. Only two voted against it.

This project has been dragging on for 9 years. Many residents living in vicinity, and the town more generally, have made it clear that they want to get the project over the line and finished. However, there also great annoyance that developers make promises to gain planning consent and drop those same promises through variations. As I started my 330 signature petition against this variation back in 2023 I had to make good on promises that I made during my election. I hope I've properly represented all those who voted for me.

When it comes to performance monitoring. Why isn't dis-proportionality measured? I have researched all the most similar forces, relating to whether their Chiefs or PCC's for that matter acknowledge Institutional Racism. I could only find a few public statements but only on racism and discrimination more generally. This is 26 years after MacPherson. One, just one, Chief Constable Sarah Crew, Avon & Somerset stands alone in acknowledging it. Our constabulary is the worst in the MSF group (S&S), and it's getting worse, now 10 times more likely to be stop searched if you are black in Gloucestershire, according to the latest data. You are not monitoring it, so you are not fixing it. I know Chris wasn't at the Constabulary's Community Engagement meeting held in Gloucester, a month ago. Actually, I had a really good chat and finally meet face to face with Andy George (Chair of the UK Black Police association) who was visiting the constabulary that day. But the issue of measuring performance on the basis of how the police are treating people from different backgrounds to a certain standard was powerfully and clearly raised by the outgoing chair of the Community Legitimacy Panel. Was that demand fed back to you? What's you position on Institutional Racism?

AI looms on the horizon - SDC looking to use a Microsoft product Power BI as an AI tool.

As Microsoft is a US company and the US has very weak data protection laws are there assurances that SDC data in Power BI is not used by Microsoft to train their AI without SDC's consent? Also, that SDC maintain ownership and total control over our residents personal data.

Social Media Policy was my gateway to have a pop at Facebook at Full Council last night.

I implored Stroud District Council to investigate far better alternatives. Mastodon for example. Federated networks of safer places, without adverts, algorithms or outrage; and I implore council to fully explore these alternatives, especially to help councillors, and indeed, residents who have no wish to engage with US Big Tech.
