Winter Wonderland? How’s the winter riding in Madison?

A morning ride to the annual Brazen Dropouts bike swap. They are a great organization, and host the best bike swap in the Midwest! Total distance one-way was 18 km, the weather was clear, wind light, and temp -11°C. The route is not the most direct, rather I wanted to see how some of the new bike infrastructure is maintained on its first winter.

@rainer Madison does a good job clearing the cycle tracks and multi-use paths. I actually prefer riding on compacted snow, rather than super salty or polished paths.

That said, they don’t appear to care about the bike lanes at all, including some of the parking protected bike lanes. Since we don’t yet have a comprehensive path network the bike lanes are important as connectors in many areas.
